The Applications Of Coaching

20 Jun

Be the change you want to see occur in the world around you. We can’t make other people be more considerate, helpful, honest, etc., but if everyone were to work on themselves and develop these attributes, our world would be a better place. Don’t be judgmental. Look for and recognize the good in yourself and in others. We are all capable of so-called “good” and “bad” behaviors and we all have our “good” and “off” days. We are all unique and it is wonderful that we are different and not all the same – in our appearance, our thoughts, our opinions, our likes and dislikes. Being different is not threatening, it is not “bad”, it is just “different”. Embrace the differences and be happy for the variety. Likewise, forget the concepts of “right” and “wrong”. People are not good or bad or right or wrong; they just are. If you were in “their shoes” maybe you would act differently, or maybe not. Being judgmental wastes time and cuts you off from opportunities and meaningful relationships – because you are not perfect either, and your judgment might be worse than the person’s you are judging! Respect. Don’t make the mistake of thinking your rights are the only ones that count. Don’t ignore the other person’s rights. Our fundamental right is to be respected. Being wealthy does not make a person more deserving of respect and neither does a high-flying career with a fancy title. Respect is not about material issues or where one sits on the social ladder. Respect is acknowledging another human being’s dignity and treating them how you wish to be treated yourself. We all came on to this earth equal and we’re all checking out as equals. What happens in between is just a series of different life experiences. The poor man who lives in a slum, who cares for strangers, volunteers assistance without expecting anything in return and lives a clean, honest life is more deserving of respect than a wealthy businessman who dresses in fine clothes, lives in a huge mansion, and treats everyone like pond amoeba, cheats on his wife, swindles his shareholders and has forgotten how to tell the truth.Be a Good Listener. How often do you really listen to other people? How often do you plan what you are going to say next while they are talking, or allow your mind to drift off onto something else instead of concentrating on their every word? It takes practice to be a good listener, but in being one, you are showing respect and in a position to better comprehend the real message being given to you. You avoid misunderstandings and missed instructions. Furthermore, the other person will appreciate your attention and return the courtesy.Be interested – not interesting. This goes hand in hand with being a good listener. People love to talk about themselves and will delight in the opportunity to do so, so ensure you ask questions and take an interest in what they are telling you. Don’t worry about them hogging the limelight – you can have your turn during the conversation. Have you ever met someone who only talks about themselves? Count the number of times you use “I” in your conversations. Judging, arguing points, interrupting the conversation, and using “I” a lot are sure signs you need to review your communication skills.Respond from Your Heart. We tend to respond to others using our head, not our heart. We formulate stories about us, we defend our ego, or we judge other people or what they have said. If we respond from our heart, we can respond with understanding and a sense of connection. Find something good to say about people and to people. Build people “up” – don’t knock them down. Go with your gut instincts.Be truthful. There is a good reason for the saying “honesty is the best policy.” Nothing good ever comes from lies, and there is a difference between being diplomatic and telling an outright lie. Nobody trusts a liar. If you’ve made a mistake, well, welcome to the human race! You don’t have to lie to cover it up. You don’t have to tell your truth “brutally”, there are gentle and tactful ways of delivering truths and you should think carefully before you speak. But don’t try to be deceitful because it has a habit of coming back to haunt you, and in those situations you are worse off than if you had just come clean in the first place, as uncomfortable as that may seem at the time.Be helpful. When you need a helping hand, don’t you just love the person who comes up and offers that to you? Wouldn’t you love the opportunity to repay them? You can be that person that others look to respectfully with gratitude in their hearts, who will, one day, repay the gesture. What comes around, goes around. If you want people to be helpful to you, you must be helpful to others. It doesn’t matter whether this is assisting your boss with a special project you can see he needs help with, or a co-worker who is struggling with a large workload, or an elderly neighbor struggling up the stairs with her arms full. People do remember kindness.Maintain Your Integrity and Your Dignity. People with their integrity intact are easier to deal with in work or personal situations. They know where they stand and you know where you stand with them. You will feel better about yourself when you set your standards and stand by them and you will attract those who respect your standards and who have standards of their own. Being a doormat is disrespectful to yourself and to the person ‘walking all over you’. It does not allow them to grow and learn to do something for themselves. Learn to say no gracefully. You have as much right as everyone else on the planet to have your own opinion and your own way of doing things, and reminding you of point (1) above, nobody has the right to make you feel ‘bad’ if you think, feel or dress differently. Remember, “to thine own self be true.”Go the Extra Mile. I mean this in a couple of ways. First, whether you are either asked to do something, or you are offering to do something, remember that if something is worth doing in the first place, then it is worth doing well. And while you are at it, what little touches can you offer to improve it? For example, who would you rather go to for your shoeshine… Mr. A does a wonderful buff and polish and is timely and not too expensive. Mr. B also does a wonderful buff and polish, he is also timely and not expensive, but he is also cheerful and interested in you and whistles while he works, so after your polish, you go on your way feeling on top of the world! Mr. B just went the extra mile for you. He didn’t just polish your shoes, he lifted your spirits and made you feel good. If you are offering a co-worker assistance with copying some documents, go the extra mile and ask if she needs a hand stapling them or collating them. Going the extra mile need not involve a large expense of time, energy or money, but it’s value to the recipient is often priceless, and one day, it will be reciprocated.Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say. Neither beat around the bush being evasive, nor make promises you can’t keep. On the other hand, if you say you are going to do something, do it. Be known as a reliable person. Honor your promises and agreements wherever possible – this stems back to integrity. Prepare to be flexible if need be, but know that you don’t have to bend over so far backwards that your back snaps. Being assertive and being aggressive are two entirely different things, and you do not need aggression to be assertive. In fact, you are better off without the aggression! If you are wishy-washy and allow people or circumstances to be unconcerned for your position, you will develop that reputation and find more and more people willing to walk all over you and more situations in which it occurs. Being like this does not prove you are valuable to anybody – it just means you are a ‘pushover’.

Coaching With Temporary Tattoos

17 Jun

Mike DuBose, defensive line coach for the Memphis Tigers who formerly lead the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama to an SEC championship, liked to say on occasion, “The same things win. It doesn’t matter where you coach them. The game’s the same.”  DuBose, like other coaches, has his own way to leading and inspiring his team.  Coaches of all professions – sports, business, nutrition, love, life- are constantly searching for new, cutting edge techniques to inspire their group.  An inexpensive, cutting edge tool to push your group to the next level: temporary tattoos.Teams have battle cries and slogans.  These phrases are unique and have special meaning to a group.  They invoke a sense of purpose and drive.  That’s why as a coach you’re always repeating your slogan.  You want your group to remember it.  It’s almost like a mantra. They chant it because they want to achieve the same success that you’ve achieved and be the best they can be.  It pumps them up and inspires them.Since you already have the inspiration factor going for you, it’s just a matter of communicating it in the best possible way.  What better way to invoke the motivation behind your slogan to get that slogan in front of your team in the form of a temporary tattoo?  Something they can wear or display on a wall or put in a folder. Recall the W.W.J.D bracelets that were popular.  They served as a reminder to make decisions according to a set of teachings.  The message was clear and accepted. You’re supposed to ask yourself what Jesus would do in your predicament. You can use temporary tattoos in the same way. Let’s say you’re a basketball Coach during spring training and you want to have a perfect 10-0 season. Making temporary tattoos with “10-0″ on it would remind your players what you’re all aiming for.Let’s say you’re a business Coach. You’re earning 250,000 a year and you’re speaking on how to achieve the same success. You can give out free temporary tattoos with “250K” on it. If you get the basic idea, you can apply it in several fields.Temporary tattoos also give your group a sense of togetherness.  It’s something each of them has that is the exact same.  Wearing uniforms or matching shoes or having the same style folder creates a sense of unity and pride – temporary tattoos work in the same way.  They’re a no-brainer for coaches.  An easy to use, inexpensive tool to inspire your group.

7 Steps To Start Your Self Own Coaching

17 Jun

Have you ever been a coach to a neighborhood team? I know how it feels the first time I’ve coached a team of seven-year-old soccer kids and how much they can really test my patience, not to mention sanity as they run around kicking the ball like ants to a huge, white crumb. It feels strange at first, having to be stared at by a bunch of kids who they will know that I’m not the one in the field. Sounds wrong in a sense, right? But what is the dead about coaching?Coaching is all about being a, well, ‘coach’ in the corporate world of handlers, front-liners and even a couple of benchwarmers biding their time to be given a chance to perform. I know how that feels when I go back to my regular day job. Some players are just MVP material, and some of them are just to support the MVP’s so why bother sticking around? It sounds ironic when they say ‘there is no I in team’, but even the underachievers can be sore losers as well. These are steps that can be done within the day, and no matter what, it takes determination to be a coach.1. There is a WHOLE lot of talk these days about Corporate Team Building. There are many, many options: vacation packages, rope courses, on-going office games, ice-breakers, etc. Management can also purchase videos, books, and seminar packages to assist them in building up their organization into a team worthy of belonging. A little later I will give you some ideas of where you can go for information on these team-building tools.2. The truth about motivation is waiting to be grasped! It is ripe and ready for you to put into action today. Don’t settle for mind-numbing gibberish. Get practical in 3 small ways to begin looking forward to your alarm clock sounding off each morning before you huddle with the team.3. Experience is the best thing despite of what course you graduated in. There is something about being a people person who knows how to stir the energetic side of one individual, and more so when you mix it up with an entire team.4. To question a person by his or her performance is sometimes required, but never question their knowledge or their intelligence. Sadly, I have seen a few mistakes from past coaches who never seem to understand what a player has to go through to get the job right. It will lead to further aggravation and maybe even hostility. If you want the job done right, then go do it yourself. You’ll see how it is to be at the receiving end and it will help your set a much better course for improvement.5. Sending a player to the bench is probably the worse experience a coach has to go through, especially if your player is the top performer. In dealing with this kind of person, see to it that he spills his guts voluntarily. Egotism in a performer tends to make them lose their focus on even the smallest mistakes, then you can catch him or her red handed. Be firm, but understanding about it.6. Don’t allow your position to blind you from what you are supposed to do. Even coaches are human enough to think that they are far more superior, but only by rank. Even if you have been in their shoes when you were their age, it’s better to dole out a piece of wisdom in order for them to realize that this will be for their own benefit.7. Lastly, you should learn to trust yourself and your team. Decisions and performance are primarily your goals, and there are many of them to see if they could perform the task much more efficiently. So before you think about sending one member to the bench, have a good chat with him or her and see if they have any problems. If it’s too personal, then just encourage them to do their best and it also helps to give them a good, encouraging slap on the back.I guess there’s all there is to it. Being a corporate drone myself, I know how important it is for a company to be successful, and we’re all part of that success. Coaches are there not to make your work a little difficult just because you have either an attitude problem or not much a performer, but they’re the guides who will help you perform as hard as you can possibly can. You’ll do them proud one of these days, as well as you.

Coaching is all about being a, well, ‘coach’ in the corporate world of handlers, front-liners and even a couple of benchwarmers biding their time to be given a chance to perform. Some Tips for Coaching Soccer

15 Jun

Before a person decides that he will become a soccer coach, he should have a full understanding of what has the game and the importance of the game. What was once a simple American sport has diversified into one of the most popular game on a global level. There are not that many countries have not adopted a soccer team and enjoy the sport. It is a very interesting history of soccer because he has been around since the Chinese and Japanese dynasties introduced in the 1500 ’s. Rome has also something very similar to soccer but it does not go by that name. However, it has been for many sports that are similar to soccer and require a ball kicked in a field to score a goal. In 1863, rules that are followed today on an international basis have been revised. These rules and regulations which were laid down are what have made the sport grow in such popularity. In fact, the sport of soccer has become an international event where the greatest achievement is to win the World Cup. The basics of soccer are to begin with two teams each have eleven players. The playground is a rectangular piece of grass and players use a soccer ball while using only their feet and objectively move the ball in the field to try to score a goal. At each end of the field, but markers that are guarded by goalies whose main task is to protect the net, therefore, no balls can enter. The ball is in constant motion at any time. Soccer comes with what is called “l ‘ Laws of the game These consist of seventeen major rules must be respected in an official match soccer. Although some referees May be a bit more flexible than others, the concept and integrity of the game must always be followed. These rules are designed to keep the game fair. soccer is a game that has evolved throughout history and throughout people flocked to watch the match. The game of soccer is as strong today as it was centuries ago. The basic equipment that is worn during a game of soccer is a jersey, a pair of shorts, shin guards, stockings and shoes adequate. The goalies wear colors that differentiate them from other players. For a goal to be scored the ball must cross the goal line, between objectives, and under the crossbar. Free kicks are awarded at the discretion of arbitrators. This would be the equivalent of a penalty shot in another sport like hockey or basketball. These are usually granted when there is no appropriate action from someone on the other team like kicking or an attempt to kick an opponent, travel, jumping, costs , Strikes, or pushes an opponent. Another reason why an arbitrator May offers a free kick would be if an opponent attacks to win the ball, hold or spitting at an opponent, or if they are to handle the ball on the goal.

The Game of Life; Start your Own Coaching: 7 Days Program

13 Jun

Have you ever been a coach to a neighborhood team? I know how it feels the first time I’ve coached a team of seven-year-old soccer kids and how much they can really test my patience, not to mention sanity as they run around kicking the ball like ants to a huge, white crumb. It feels strange at first, having to be stared at by a bunch of kids who they will know that I’m not the one in the field. Sounds wrong in a sense, right? But what is the dead about coaching?

Coaching is all about being a, well, ‘coach’ in the corporate world of handlers, front-liners and even a couple of benchwarmers biding their time to be given a chance to perform. I know how that feels when I go back to my regular day job. Some players are just MVP material, and some of them are just to support the MVP’s so why bother sticking around? It sounds ironic when they say ‘there is no I in team’, but even the underachievers can be sore losers as well.

These are steps that can be done within the day, and no matter what, it takes determination to be a coach.

1. There is a WHOLE lot of talk these days about Corporate Team Building. There are many, many options: vacation packages, rope courses, on-going office games, ice-breakers, etc. Management can also purchase videos, books, and seminar packages to assist them in building up their organization into a team worthy of belonging. A little later I will give you some ideas of where you can go for information on these team-building tools.

2. The truth about motivation is waiting to be grasped! It is ripe and ready for you to put into action today. Don’t settle for mind-numbing gibberish. Get practical in 3 small ways to begin looking forward to your alarm clock sounding off each morning before you huddle with the team.

3. Experience is the best thing despite of what course you graduated in. There is something about being a people person who knows how to stir the energetic side of one individual, and more so when you mix it up with an entire team.

4. You’ll see how it is to be at the receiving end and it will help your set a much better course for improvement.

5. Be firm, but understanding about it.

6. Don’t allow your position to blind you from what you are supposed to do. Even coaches are human enough to think that they are far more superior, but only by rank. Even if you have been in their shoes when you were their age, it’s better to dole out a piece of wisdom in order for them to realize that this will be for their own benefit.

7. Lastly, you should learn to trust yourself and your team. Decisions and performance are primarily your goals, and there are many of them to see if they could perform the task much more efficiently. So before you think about sending one member to the bench, have a good chat with him or her and see if they have any problems. If it’s too personal, then just encourage them to do their best and it also helps to give them a good, encouraging slap on the back.

I guess there’s all there is to it.

Self Coaching 101 – The First Aspect Of Winning In Life

12 Jun

If you are serious about being successful, start by eliminating everything you are putting up with, the things you are  tolerating, enduring-those petty annoyances. You might be tolerating any number of small things, such as the overflowing in-box, the unpaid taxes you have to figure out, or even the tear in your bathrobe that nags at you every time you open your shower door and see it hanging there. Every time you see it, you think, “I’ve got to sew that up.” That is an annoyance-something as small as a missing button, or scuffed shoes. It could be that you are also tolerating something bigger. Maybe you’re tolerating your spouse’s bad  breath, or your best friend’s habit of always showing up late, or you’re tolerating something about your work, perhaps a boss who  micromanages you. Or you could be tolerating your own bad habits-that you bite your nails or can’t find important papers because your files are disorganized. You could be annoyed by the pollution in your city, the fact that your car is messy, or that you have a long commute to work.Everything you are tolerating drains your energy, makes you irritable, and wears you down. It is very difficult to be successful if you are putting up with a lot. From my coaching experience, I’ve found that most people tolerate anywhere from 60 to 100 different things. To eliminate what you are putting up with, simply write down the 60 to 100 things that you are tolerating. Make the list. It doesn’t do any good to just keep a mental list in your head; you must write them down to get them out of your head and onto paper. Then call a friend and buddy-up with someone else who wants to get rid of the things they are putting up with too. Set aside a whole Saturday or Sunday as a blitz day and start working down your list on anything that can be done in one day. If you start to lose steam, call your buddy to check in for a pep talk and report your progress.

Leadership Development Coaching – Leadership Style Coaching

12 Jun

It takes several skills to become a leader. Lucky you, here is an article that will provide you with leadership development coaching, so that you’ll become the best leader you can be.Click Here to Learn How to Lead Effectively.Number one: A good leader inspires and motivates. He makes plans, having a certain vision in mind, which he eventually shares with his team members. He encourages his members to work as a unit towards that goal, and he leads by example. Number two: A good leader knows how to listen. In order to become a good leader, you have to listen to everyone in the team and take a conscious decision. If someone is talking to you, it is important to listen to everything that they are saying. Besides, you don’t know if what they have to say is useful or not.Number three: A good leader is flexible. He recognizes peoples’ needs outside work life in order to achieve better result on the work. He allows for risks to be taken, and he stays cool under pressure. In other words, a good leader never passes his stress to his subordinates. Number four: A good leader is always humble. He never gets too big for his shoes, and he knows how to admit his faults. If you don’t know something, don’t give a made up answer. Admit that you don’t know and find out as soon as you are able. If you’re wrong about something, don’t be offended, and learn from your mistakes instead.Number five: A good leader knows how to communicate with others. He allows employees and colleagues to share their opinions and concerns. When information is given, he gets opinions from employees. He also gives honest and unbiased feedback regularly, and gives clear directions as well. These are just some of the many characteristics of a good leader. Keep in mind, though, that it takes experience and time to use those skills to become a good leader.

Does an obsession for success kill the passion for life?- Life Coaching Training

11 Jun

Deluxe. Several times I was moved, elated, bouncing and feeling so happy being right here, right now.

In the last month I read all four Twilight books and I was so blown away by how it made me feel.

I’m sitting here thinking. Where have I been?  What have I been doing?  What have I been waiting for?

When was I going to start appreciating art, beauty and artistry again?  After I achieved what?  What does achieving have to do with appreciation?

I remember being a teenager and I was moved, touched, inspired, sparked, enraged and validated by song, art, film and theater. I would get enraptured by sporting events rooting for the underdog!!

Where did that go?  I’ve been so busy creating a life that someday I can enjoy, I’ve completely ignored my natural appreciation. Why has my hunt for success, fortune and fame been so all consuming?

Today I just got present to how The Drunk Monkey has owned me for the last 20 years as I chased the elusive destination called success. Now I’m here and I can’t believe I wasted so much time on it.

I didn’t need to live in a multi-million dollar house, burn through luxury cars or have 20 pairs of pimp shoes. I could have been appreciating, digging, grooving, dancing, singing, cheering on the under dog, and moved to tears the entire time. No stuff is required to feel and experience.

As I wipe the tears from my eyes, I realize that I’m happy that I went for the elusive prize for you.

I’m grateful that my heartache can be a marker, a beacon for you. So I can share with you my journey and tell you its not worth obsessing over the destination called success. No matter how much I achieve I still haven’t proved to the elusive “them” that I’m good enough or a part of the group or worthwhile or even of value.

The rules I was taught don’t apply. The promises that I was sold on didn’t get fulfilled. So I am going out on my own and making up my own rules.

Live now!  Appreciate now!  Listen to more music, roll on the ground with your kids, forgive your parents, smell the roses, stare at sunsets.

I know it sounds like sappy self help bulls*** but no matter how much stuff you have it doesn’t change your ability to appreciate.  And achieving success will not change your experience and appreciation.

I dare you to stop and appreciate everything you come across today and see what happens.

Is Youth Soccer Coaching For You?

11 Jun

So, you want to coach youth soccer.  What a wonderful thing to do!  Although it will be a fun and rewarding experience overall, there are some things to think about when making your decision about youth soccer coaching.

How do you handle confrontation, frustration, and disagreements?  Will you be able to handle unhappy parents with calm strength?  Parents protect their children like lions.  Any real or perceived injustice will make a parent angry.  You need to be able to communicate peacefully and with an eye toward a positive and agreed upon resolution.  Get out your dancing shoes, making the parents happy is going to require some fancy footwork!  Just remember, you will never be able to make everyone happy.  The most you can expect of yourself is to make sure everyone’s concerns are addressed and every parent feels heard.  However, as the coach you have the final say.

You will be dealing with children.  There will be pouting, temper tantrums and disinterest.  Are you ready to be a leader to children who may not want to listen?  Do you have a plan for how you are going to handle the usual children’s antics while teaching the needed lessons about teamwork and good sportsmanship?  If you keep in mind that how you handle every child in every situation is teaching all of the kids valuable lessons about how to handle life in general, you will be fine.

Are you aware of the time commitment that will need to be made for coaching youth soccer?  Will you be able to make it to every practice on time?

You will need to be educated about the techniques and plays in soccer.   You will also need to be familiar with the rules and regulations.

Can you remember to treat every child equally regardless of skill level or social and economic background?  Every child wants to feel special.  As a coach, you can change the course of a child’s life by offering some needed encouragement.  Never underestimate the impact you could potentially have on a child.

How do you handle disagreements or situations when your own child makes a bad play?  The time will come, probably once at every game, that you do not agree with the referree, can you handle your displeasure with class?  Will you set a good example?  When your own child makes a mistake, will you be able to treat them in the same manner that you do the other children?  Coaches who come down hard on their own kids make everyone feel uncomfortable.

This is just a brief sampling of the things to consider when deciding if youth soccer coaching is for you.   No doubt that will a little planning and a lot of heart, you will do fine.
