How To Raise Your Fees Now In Three Simple Steps

06 Jul

It’s the beginning of the year, a perfect time to review your fees. When was the last time you raised them? It doesn’t really matter how long it has been (unless it has been too long). As long as you are getting great results for your clients it’s time to review (and raise) your fees.I know what you’re thinking. You don’t want to lose any clients. That’s what stops most Solopreneurs from raising their fees. And yet, raising your fees is the fastest way to improve your bottom line. And if done right it can actually draw more of the right clients to you.Let’s face it if clients leave you because of a reasonable fee rise, weren’t they on their way out anyway?Let me give you the three steps you can do right now to set you up for raising your fees today. Making that happen smoothly with your clients accepting the change and the potential for drawing even more clients to you.1. Add specific new testimonials to your marketing that show resultsTestimonials are THE most powerful tool in establishing the value you provide. It’s much better to have your clients raving about you than you doing it yourself. You must have strong results based testimonials. Make sure your clients clearly say where they were when they started working with you and where they are now as a result of working with you. Make sure you ask for these testimonials every time and coach your clients on how you want them written. Then display them on your website, brochure and everywhere else.If you want to raise your fees now, make a point of asking a handful of your past clients for a testimonial now. Coach them through the writing process, make it easy for them. Most clients don’t know how to write the kind of testimonial you want but are eager to do it once you show them how. 2. Give your sales and marketing language an overhaulHow clearly do you articulate to your clients what their results from working with you are going to be? Check how specific you are. Put yourself into your client’s shoes and ask, would I sign up for this? You want to create a package that is irresistible. If you want to raise your fees, make sure your client sees the value they are getting from the package as far greater than the fee you are charging. It should be an easy ‘yes’ decision for them.3. Create an additional program so there’s choiceCreate another program and give your clients choice. Make sure your premium offer is significantly different in outcome and fee so there is a clear choice. As long as there is a choice your clients are in control, so if they don’t want to pay premium dollar, they can opt for a different program. Once give your clients the choice of a higher and lower price point its easier to raise your fees because your clients won’t need to decide whether to work with you or not, just about the program they can afford and want to invest in. This is the way to keep them with you and happy about what they get. Finally, remember it’s not the end of the world when a client leaves, especially when they leave you just because you have adjusted your fees (as long as they are appropriate for the value you create). There is a certain group of potential clients waiting in the wings that won’t even look at your offers unless you are charging a certain level of fees. Think about that for a moment!

7 Steps To Start Your Self Own Coaching

17 Jun

Have you ever been a coach to a neighborhood team? I know how it feels the first time I’ve coached a team of seven-year-old soccer kids and how much they can really test my patience, not to mention sanity as they run around kicking the ball like ants to a huge, white crumb. It feels strange at first, having to be stared at by a bunch of kids who they will know that I’m not the one in the field. Sounds wrong in a sense, right? But what is the dead about coaching?Coaching is all about being a, well, ‘coach’ in the corporate world of handlers, front-liners and even a couple of benchwarmers biding their time to be given a chance to perform. I know how that feels when I go back to my regular day job. Some players are just MVP material, and some of them are just to support the MVP’s so why bother sticking around? It sounds ironic when they say ‘there is no I in team’, but even the underachievers can be sore losers as well. These are steps that can be done within the day, and no matter what, it takes determination to be a coach.1. There is a WHOLE lot of talk these days about Corporate Team Building. There are many, many options: vacation packages, rope courses, on-going office games, ice-breakers, etc. Management can also purchase videos, books, and seminar packages to assist them in building up their organization into a team worthy of belonging. A little later I will give you some ideas of where you can go for information on these team-building tools.2. The truth about motivation is waiting to be grasped! It is ripe and ready for you to put into action today. Don’t settle for mind-numbing gibberish. Get practical in 3 small ways to begin looking forward to your alarm clock sounding off each morning before you huddle with the team.3. Experience is the best thing despite of what course you graduated in. There is something about being a people person who knows how to stir the energetic side of one individual, and more so when you mix it up with an entire team.4. To question a person by his or her performance is sometimes required, but never question their knowledge or their intelligence. Sadly, I have seen a few mistakes from past coaches who never seem to understand what a player has to go through to get the job right. It will lead to further aggravation and maybe even hostility. If you want the job done right, then go do it yourself. You’ll see how it is to be at the receiving end and it will help your set a much better course for improvement.5. Sending a player to the bench is probably the worse experience a coach has to go through, especially if your player is the top performer. In dealing with this kind of person, see to it that he spills his guts voluntarily. Egotism in a performer tends to make them lose their focus on even the smallest mistakes, then you can catch him or her red handed. Be firm, but understanding about it.6. Don’t allow your position to blind you from what you are supposed to do. Even coaches are human enough to think that they are far more superior, but only by rank. Even if you have been in their shoes when you were their age, it’s better to dole out a piece of wisdom in order for them to realize that this will be for their own benefit.7. Lastly, you should learn to trust yourself and your team. Decisions and performance are primarily your goals, and there are many of them to see if they could perform the task much more efficiently. So before you think about sending one member to the bench, have a good chat with him or her and see if they have any problems. If it’s too personal, then just encourage them to do their best and it also helps to give them a good, encouraging slap on the back.I guess there’s all there is to it. Being a corporate drone myself, I know how important it is for a company to be successful, and we’re all part of that success. Coaches are there not to make your work a little difficult just because you have either an attitude problem or not much a performer, but they’re the guides who will help you perform as hard as you can possibly can. You’ll do them proud one of these days, as well as you.

05 Jun

If you can not open your closet, because it is so filled with designer handbags, even if you turn the knob, a tidal wave of money will turn your bedroom into a mess, you need help. If you try, unsuccessfully, to curb the designer handbag of your addiction, here are 10 steps to help give your purse designer curse. Giving up your straight-up handbag addiction! 1st. Unlike with a lot of self-help programs, you do not want to try and go Cold Turkey and stop buying handbags whole. If you are addicted to handbags it will not work. The first step is to realize that you can not stop your addiction suddenly. 2nd. The second step is to have a budget. They are not only going to create a budget for your handbags, listing exactly how many Marc Jacobs, you can buy versus Coach bags. They are a budget for everything in your life, including rent, utilities and car insurance. Yes, it’s a drag, but you have to do. 3rd. Now that you have your budget in hand, you are going to limit how many bags you purchase. If you only $ 100 extra in your budget, and Marc Jacobs clutch costs about $ 400, you will know now that you can afford to buy one every three months instead of buying the green leather and the black at the same time. 4th. If you have a problem keeping your will power not to buy a designer handbag that you want to prevent a rash purchase. 20 years ago could be just the money into a bank, which would pretty much prevents you from buying a handbag, but with online shopping and ATMs, you are going to want to literally freeze your plastic. Get a large container, fill it with water, put your credit cards in it, and hold it in the freezer. In this way, if you want to make a purchase you have to wait for the money to thaw. 5th. Try to avoid temptations. Throw the tabloid newspapers, or simply do not buy in order to see handbags. If you are in some of these rags, you will see that every week a new celebrity, the other around a designer handbag. Sure, it’s nice to see the same bag that you want, but it is simply too tempting to buy the latest IT bag. 6th. If you feel a little depressed about not having the latest bag, organize your own collection. Even if you only have a few purses, you can spend the time you normally do, shopping spend a little work on it. 7th. If you are sick and tired of carrying around the same handbag, you may want some of your older sacks from retirement. Sure, they may have been popular couple years, but that does not mean that you are still not wearing it around today. A good handbag is always a good handbag. 8th. To make something new in your wardrobe, you may need to trade or borrow. Hey, it will not cost you a lot of money, and nobody needs to know that it is not for you. 9th. Handbags are expensive things to collect; you may want to start another collection. Why not a stamp collection? Stamps are only $ .49, so that you could buy literally hundreds of them (if not thousands) for the price of a handbag. 10th. If it hard is that to enter your handbag addiction, you can only want to go and buy. They are disappointed in themselves, but at least you have the satisfaction with the implementation around the latest pocket!

The 10 Steps to Giving Up Your Designer Handbag Addiction

26 May

If you can’t open your closet because it is so stuffed with designer handbags that if you even turn the knob, a tidal wave of purses will turn your bedroom into a mess, you need help. If you are trying, unsuccessfully, to curb your Designer Handbags addiction, here are 10 steps to help you give up your designer purse curse.

Giving up your straight-up Handbag addiction!

1. Unlike with a lot of self-help programs, you don’t want to try and go cold turkey and stop buying handbags altogether. If you are addicted to handbags it won’t work. The first step is to realize that you can’t stop your addiction suddenly.

2. The second step is to make a budget. You aren’t just going to make a budget for your handbags, listing exactly how many Marc Jacobs you can buy versus Coach bags. You are going to make a budget for everything in your life including rent, utilities and car insurance. Yes, it’s a drag, but you have to do it.

3. Now that you have your budget in hand, you are going to limit how many purses you purchase. If you only have $100 extra in your budget, and the Marc Jacobs Clutch costs about $400, you will now know that you can afford to buy one every three months, instead of buying the green leather one and the black one at the same time.

4. If you are having a problem keeping your willpower to not buy a designer handbag, you are going to want to prevent a rash purchase. 20 years ago you would just put the money into a bank, which would have pretty much prevented you from buying a handbag, but with shopping online and ATMs, you are going to want to literally freeze your plastic. Get a big container, fill it with water, put your credit cards in it, and stick it in the freezer. That way, if you want to make a purchase you have to wait for the money to thaw out.

5. Try to avoid temptations. Throw away the tabloids or just don’t purchase them to avoid seeing handbags. If you look in some of these rags, you’ll see that every week a new celebrity is carrying around a different designer handbag. Sure, it’s nice to see who has the same bag that you want, but it’s just too tempting to buy the latest it-bag.

6. If you are feeling a bit depressed about not having the latest bag, organize your own collection. Even if you only have a couple of purses, you can spend the time that you would normally spend shopping doing a bit of work on them.

7. If you are sick and tired of carrying around the same handbag, you may want to take some of your older bags out of retirement. Sure, they may have been popular couple years ago, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t carry them around today. A good handbag will always be a good handbag.

8. To get something new into your wardrobe, you may have to trade or borrow. Hey, it’s won’t cost you a lot of money, and no one has to know it’s not yours.

9. Handbags are expensive things to collect, so you may want to start on another collection. Why not start a stamp collection? Stamps are only $.49 so you could literally buy hundreds of them (if not thousands) for the price of one handbag.

10. If it is that tough to give up your handbag addiction, you may just want go ahead and buy one. You’ll be disappointed in yourself, but at least you will have the satisfaction of carrying around the latest bag!

7 Steps On The Path To Coaching

23 May

Have you ever been a coach to a neighborhood team? I know how it feels the first time I’ve coached a team of seven-year-old soccer kids and how much they can really test my patience, not to mention sanity as they run around kicking the ball like ants to a huge, white crumb. It feels strange at first, having to be stared at by a bunch of kids who they will know that I’m not the one in the field. Sounds wrong in a sense, right? But what is the dead about coaching?
Coaching is all about being a, well, ‘coach’ in the corporate world of handlers, front-liners and even a couple of benchwarmers biding their time to be given a chance to perform. I know how that feels when I go back to my regular day job. Some players are just MVP material, and some of them are just to support the MVP’s so why bother sticking around? It sounds ironic when they say ‘there is no I in team’, but even the underachievers can be sore losers as well.
These are steps that can be done within the day, and no matter what, it takes determination to be a coach.
1. There is a WHOLE lot of talk these days about Corporate Team Building. There are many, many options: vacation packages, rope courses, on-going office games, ice-breakers, etc. Management can also purchase videos, books, and seminar packages to assist them in building up their organization into a team worthy of belonging. A little later I will give you some ideas of where you can go for information on these team-building tools.

3. Experience is the best thing despite of what course you graduated in. There is something about being a people person who knows how to stir the energetic side of one individual, and more so when you mix it up with an entire team.
4. You’ll see how it is to be at the receiving end and it will help your set a much better course for improvement.
5. Be firm, but understanding about it.
6. Don’t allow your position to blind you from what you are supposed to do. Even coaches are human enough to think that they are far more superior, but only by rank. Even if you have been in their shoes when you were their age, it’s better to dole out a piece of wisdom in order for them to realize that this will be for their own benefit.

Eleven Steps to FINALLY loving your work after forty

08 May

Step One: Envision exactly what would be just perfect for you! Many people stop on this first step by their negativity. But no one is going to do this except you.Take some time and create a picture in your mind of the work which would be just perfect for you. Is it working in the health field, with children, painting, writing or creating marketing campaigns? Separate the money at this stage or you will NEVER move to the step 2. Of course, there will be steps to get to this perfect state. What would that look like for you?Step Two: Write down your plan to get thereWhen you write down a plan, your whole life and activities start to align around what you want. Then you start to figure out how to reach your goals. All of a sudden daily activities start to align and make sense. You start to be clearer about which opportunities to say yes to and which to turn down. Once written down you have something to refer to daily especially when you encounter others who don’t support your plans.Step Three: Talk to others about your plansThis is not a process of ego. In some ways it doesn’t matter who you talk to. Strangers on the airplane are the best for the start. They listen and ask questions while you get to practice your new elevator speech about your life. When you talk to others about your plans you commit yourself and start to believe that what you want is possible. This is really important. You are not talking to others to get their views. You have to be strong emotionally and resist to the negative view.Step Four: Take small steps dailyImagine you just started an exercise program. The first 4 days you jog slowly. You start to feel sore but good at the same time. Then you decide to take a week off. You lose all the momentum and fitness gained in those first four days. The same is true for vocational passion. You need to take small steps daily. For example, if you decide you want to be in the marketing field, don’t let a day go by without reading an article on marketing, talking to someone about marketing or marketing something yourself. These activities build new habits around what you want vs. perhaps old addictions which are no longer helpful for you in your life.Step Five: Measure your progressFinancial experts will advise to make a budget and keep track of your spending. They claim this helps to place focus on where your spending is going. Again this is true for moving towards your vocational goals. To keep track of your daily activities and progress will help as you move towards new goals in your life. Then you can examine what is working and what is not working, so you can make corrections as you go.Step Six: Celebrate small progressUsing the above example, you decide to subscribe to an on-line marketing forum with other marketing professionals. For a week, you log on daily and discuss the world of marketing with others. It feels good to be involved with others who share your passion of marketing. At the end of the week you have new ideas and are feeling pretty good about your progress. Ok, time to celebrate in a healthy way. Maybe for you this means going out to a nice dinner or maybe a movie or buying a new CD or your favorite newspaper. The point is these small celebrations will reinforce your progress and encourage even more progress. This is very different than the rewards you used to have in the past when the organization allowed you to wear jeans on Friday for work performed- how humiliating!Step Seven: Change course when neededAlong the way you will run into challenges and roadblocks. You may need to slightly change course. I have many clients who start down the road to one passion then suddenly discover this was not what they expected. Don’t be afraid to make change mid-stream. These are usually small changes but enough to keep the dreams alive and moving forward. The most important thing is to be aware of and recognize when change is needed. One can usually tell if they listen careful to their INNER signals.Step Eight: Get a new teamIn many cases, the path towards a new vocation will require a new team or just a new commitment from the same team! Approach your existing team of friends, family and professional contacts and let them know your new path and direction and ask for their support, ideas and encouragement. If you run into anyone who doesn’t support what you want, let them know in a nice way you may have to drop them from the team down the road. This is the hardest thing to do with a spouse who isn’t thrilled with your new plans in mid-life. The key to a strong relationship is to support each others’ dreams and desires. Without this, there is no longer a strong foundation in the relationship to fall back on during challenging times. This is the time when a new team or member is needed. Surround yourself with only people who support and encourage your development at this stage of your life. Don’t settle for anything less!Step Nine: Change your environmentIt is amazing how just a small or large change in environment can make a difference in your progress. Burdened by a large mortgage, perhaps a move to a less expensive area will make the difference. Perhaps moving to a new office or part of the house will create the same effect.Start with the criteria which would be just perfect for you with regards to the environment. This should include where you live, how you live and what stuff you live with. Sometimes just getting rid of old junk and things can create a lighter backpack for your new life.Step Ten: Change your financial stateMoney is such a personal topic. Start with a clear understanding of what you need vs. what you want. There is a difference. How much money do you need to make, net after taxes to do the work you love? It is amazing to me how many people don’t have a good idea as to their monthly cash flow and expenses. Where can you lighten the load? Start with small things and work your way up. Don’t expect miracles. Stay away from traditional advice like saving for retirement. This should be the first idea to throw out. Cash out your savings for death (my word for retirement) and use now to fund your way towards doing what you love. You won’t die or go homeless at this step. You need to free up all resources now. So many people I work with are scared of losing their money and this fear prevents them from living in the present and making a better life now vs. saving for someday which usually never comes as life tends to get in the way.Step Eleven: Continue learningContinue learning and improve your self-awareness. This is key to future development and a sense of calmness about your path. Start a journal. Just before bed each night, answer the question, what did I learn about myself today. There will always be something you learned. Read this journal every 30 days. You will see your progress. This is what I call the compounding of self-awareness which is much more valuable in mid-life than the compounding of money. If you follow JUST money then after losing your work you are left with nothing. But if you follow a path towards doing work which you love, you may lose money but you will always have the work to do which you love!I’ll be cheering you on as you go!Craig Nathanson
